Pneumatic Spindle Drives

The pneumatic or air motor drive has these advantages:

• Service supply is simple piping
• Easy installation, usually by plant personnel
• Problems are easily diagnosed
• Compact package size

The pneumatic motor drive has some potential problems.  They are:

• Large volumes of compressed air may be required
• Upgrades to the existing pneumatic system may be necessary
• Unmuffled exhaust is very loud
• Subject to pressure supply variations
• System pressure drop should be kept to a minimum
• Require regular maintenance
